Center of the global gas industry shifting towards East

During SPIGF 2022, participants of the Plenary Session discussed the new configuration of the global gas market. It will be based on the efficient, equal, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

This was what Oleg Aksyutin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee at Gazprom PJSC, Head of the Perspective Development Department (623) confirmed at the plenary session ‘Russian gas industry: development priorities in new conditions’ that took place during the 11th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

‘The energy crisis in the European market demonstrates that renewable energy cannot offer an alternative to oil, gas, or coal in these challenging times. Europe has no alternatives to Russian gas supplies,’ said Oleg Aksyutin.

He elaborated that the natural gas share in the global energy balance is going to extend; the Russian gas market is going to dynamically develop thanks to gas procession, gasification of Russian regions, and gas engine fuel use gaining momentum; and the Russian gas industry confidently keeps its leading positions in the global energy markets.

Oleg Aksyutin emphasized that at the same time natural gas as fuel is getting more and more popular in the Asian Region. ‘We can assume that the world’s gas market will get a new configuration. We can see alliances, unions, and partnerships be established in the new world, including the ones participated by the natural gas producers,’ the expert said.

He gave examples of such efficient, equal, and mutually beneficial collaboration – the strategic partnership between Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC); dynamic development of Russia-Turkey collaboration in the gas sector that ensures stable supply of the Russian gas to the Turkish markets, as well as its transit to European countries; Gazprom’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for Strategic Cooperation with the National Iranian Oil Company.

‘The importance of strategic cooperation between the top players of the global gas market, the ones who share common objectives and opinions, is stepping up today,’ Oleg Aksyutin resumed.
