Pyotr Korvyakov, First Deputy CEO, Gazprom Space Systems JSC, told participants of the 24th International Scientific and Technological Congress, arranged during SPIGF 2019. The project of the satellite system for the Earth distant sounding SMOTR will facilitate further introduction of aerospace technologies in the oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation.

Today, Gazprom Space Systems JSC, affiliate of Gazprom, is implementing the satellite    communication system Yamal, guaranteeing uninterruptable cellular transmission for rotation workers that undertake hours-long surveys in the taiga.

Based on the Yamal system, Gazprom Space Systems JSC offers satellite telecommunication services via 2 thousand of earth stations, 450 of which are owned by the Gazprom group. The Yamal system is served by a group of 5 satellites, the lattermost Yamal-610 placed into the orbit on May 30, 2019.

Satellite introduction in the oil and gas sector is conditioned by development of information management systems and the need to connect remote affiliates, departments, and facilities to them. Moreover, there is a need for on-the-spot cellular communication and internet support for remote construction sites and rotation camps. Introduction of cosmic telemechanics into production processes, wide use of mobile applications, immediate broadcastings and space bridges – all of that makes development of space technologies one of the top priorities for Gazprom.
