ST. PETERSBURG INTERNATIONAL GAS FORUM 2025

In 2025, St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, or SPIGF, has once again confirmed its status as one of the leading world’s venues where fuel and energy specialists can have a dialogue. 35,800 participants from 52 countries came to take part in the Forum, and the convention program included 123 events covering 21 topics from gas prospection, mining and transportation, gas distribution and gas consumption, underground storage to international collaboration, sustainable development, technological independence, as well as new tools for digital transformation and automation of the sector. Topical sessions and round table discussions included more than 900 reports made by professionals working in the industry. The speakers represented federal and regional authorities, dedicated associations and unions, but there also were executives, senior and technological engineers from different companies, leading experts, analysts, scientists, emerging specialists, along with students from industry-specific universities. Exhibitions arranged during SPIGF took all the pavilions and outdoor premises available in Expoforum. At the area of 51,000 sq. m, 620 companies showcased their research and technology projects along with innovative solutions designed for the gas sector. The events taking place during the Forum were covered by 568 journalists from Russian and foreign media.

This year, the Forum went beyond its usual format. Some of the events were arranged in Gazprom’s headquarters, Lakhta Centre, which is the avatar of innovation and progress. The Strategic Priorities of Russia in the Arctic, RAO/CIS Offshore 2025 plenary session, took place in the Mariinsky Palace, whereas the traditional gala dinner dedicated to SPIGF was held in Gazprom Arena.

CONVENTION PROGRAM

The convention program of the Forum included a set of events that covered the key aspects of the gas sector development, which included technological independence, staff training, safety and international collaboration.

Participants of the 2nd Prospects of Gas Separation Technologies using Russian-Made Membranes Scientific-Practical Conference discussed the strategic importance of Russian-made membrane technologies design and introduction. They also touched on extraction of valuable components from natural gas, production of membranes and membrane modules, as well as membrane separation of fluid media. The Conference became a place for scientists and industrialists to talk to each other, and the participants managed to chalk out certain paths to implement research projects in production.

Another landmark occasion was the Special session on developing industrial safety culture at Gazprom. Over 60 executives of the company’s subsidiaries took part in it. During the session, the results of independent audit inspection in regard of industrial safety culture were presented along with main vectors for its development. The participants talked about the key tools used to shape the safety culture, specially focusing on coaching, acclimation for emerging specialists and use of digital platforms for training.

As part of the Safe and Sustainable IT Infrastructure in the Oil and Gas Sector panel discussion, the experts considered the use of Russian software. The participants delivered successful introduction cases and innovative projects like RED ADM and Aladdin Enterprise CA, which guarantee sustainability and security of IT systems.

During the BRICS countries discussion, international collaboration was brought into the spotlights. The alliance members took counsel in regard of prospects implied in the joint projects undertaken in the gas sector, including the use of Russian technologies in Thailand and Africa. Moreover, the event included talking on legal regulations and investment protection matters, as well as possibilities for extending collaboration between the countries.

At the Gen Alpha: Securing Staff Independence in the Russian Industry strategic session the experts discussed training of future specialists while they are still children, using all kinds of digital products, science parks and career guidance applications. Up2U Profi mobile app called to heighten the youth’s interest to today’s engineering professions and the industry itself was presented.

As part of Gas Engine Efficiency of Cargo Transportation Conference, the participants considered advantages of switching to gas engine fuel and remotorisation of vehicles. There, positive cases of vehicle refitment were demonstrated that ensured a tangible reduction of fuel expenses. Likewise, the experts registered that remotorisation is dynamically supported by the Russian government. In particular, they have subsidies for small and medium businesses in place.

A high profile event, International Gas Markets: Tasks Associated with Legal Provisions and Staff Training International Scientific-Practical Conference, confined to the 5th Anniversary of the Musin Research Centre, took place during SPIGF, too. The participants agreed that it is important to have highly qualified staff trained and gas initiatives legally supported. Postgraduate students and graduates of the Centre made their reports to highlight legal aspects of the energy sector, transformation of the corporate management system and international legal provisions for the gas projects.

his year, the Forum convention agenda included a brand new area of focus, namely legal regulations in the gas industry. The arrangements were undertaken by the International Association of Lawyers and Consultants in collaboration with ExpoForum International. The experts specified that legal support had been becoming an integral part of the infrastructure behind the oil and gas products. Besides, it was what sustainability of investment models depended on, and what ensured mitigation of both technological and sanction-related risks.

Yet another big event was the Hydrogen Energy. Reboot and New Technological Solutions panel session, where the experts contemplated the development prospects with the Russia’s hydrogen sector from establishing the infrastructure to scaling up the pilot projects.

PLENARY SESSION

The key event of the Forum was the Natural Gas Market in 2025–2035: New Contours in a Fast-Moving Environment plenary session.
